Settlements and Regions of High Rock

Postby SGMonkey » Thu Apr 10, 2014 8:04 am

In TES II, there are more cities than you could shake a stick at. Same goes for towns and villages. In Glenpoint region alone there are over 90 settlements. For obvious reasons... this just wont fit in TES III.

Cities
Camlorn
Daggerfall
Evermore
Farrun
Jehanna
Northpoint
Orsinium
Shornhelm
Wayrest

Towns
Alcaire
Anticlere
Betony ???
Bhoriane
Daenia
Dwynnen
Gavaudon
Glenpoint
Grimdale Moor
Ilessan Hills ???
Kambria
Koegria
Menevia
Northmoor
Phrygias
Shalgora
Tulune
Urvaius
Wrothgaria
Ykalon

Black Wastes
Cloud Spring
Dunkarn Haven
Dunlain Falls
Eagle Brook
Ebon Wastes
Glenpoint
Ilessen Hills
Karthgran Vale
Kings Guard
Markwasten Moor
Meir Darguard
Meir Thorvale
Moonguard
Normar Heights
Norvulk Hills
Old Gate
Portdun Creek
Raven Spring
Reich Gradkeep
Thorkan Park
Vermeir Wastes
White Haven
Wind Keep

*** Towns that were cities in TES II
*** Towns and Villages from Arena

Regions
The regions in High Rock 427 have yet to be decided. The two well known regions are the Illiac Bay (Which contains most of what was in TES II) and the Wrothgarian Mountains. Within each region, especially the bay. There are varying geographical features. Such as Forests and Moors. Whether or not these should be named regions or just referred to in text.

Through discussions on the old forum, people tended to think they should be named after geographical features. Such as...
Illiac Bay
Wrothgarian Mountains
Bjoulsae River
Western Reach

But that leaves us the northerly region containing North Point and Shornhelm.
This is what We have so far.

In ESO the region immediately around Daggerfall (basically the mostwestern tip of the province) ist called Glenumbra. You could make this a subregion of the illiac bay, if that seems appropriate.

Yeah I had planned to have The Glenumbra Moors as a subregion of the Illiac Bay Region. In TESO Glenumbra seems to be a huge area.

EDIT: I don't know how much inspiration to take from TESO, especially considering how much lore has altered to make the game work. I use the term work loosely of course.
I mean c'mon, Nords, Dunmer and Argonians are best buddies...?

That said, I think it may make sense to make the tip of the peninsular Its own region separate from the Illiac bay. But I'd like opinions first.

I'd say to take things from ESO and other games which are "cool" and make the province more interesting. To hell with the rest.

I doubt I will be taking much inspiration from it honestly. There's very little to take from it anyway. Aside from place names, which often look out of place anyway.

That doesn't mean I wish to shun every thing from TESO, just that I don't see much need to take anything from TESO.

I haven't played in that region of ESO, so I have no idea what may be useful. I've mostly just played in ESO's Morrowind which had a couple interesting ideas that I have peeled off for my own project - but also a lot which I did not like.
